Thyroid disorders & malfunctions are one of the most common disease found around us. Since this is a gland malfunction, symptoms are mostly seen quite late. Thyroid treatment is a must at the earliest stage for a healthy life.

What is Thyroid: Thyroid disease is a medical condition that affects the function of the thyroid gland (the endocrine organ found at the front of the neck that produces thyroid hormones).The symptoms of thyroid disease vary depending on the type.

There are four general types: 1) hypothyroidism (low function) caused by not having enough thyroid hormones; 2) hyperthyroidism (high function) caused by having too much thyroid hormones; 3) structural abnormalities, most commonly an enlargement of the thyroid gland; and 4) tumors which can be benign or cancerous.

It is also possible to have abnormal thyroid function tests without any clinical symptoms. Common hypothyroid symptoms include Poor Concentration, muscle and joint pains, depression, fatigue, low energy, weight gain, inability to tolerate the cold, slow heart rate,  leg swelling, irregular periods, dry skin and constipation. Common hyperthyroid symptoms include irritability, weight loss, fast heartbeat, heat intolerance, diarrhea, and enlargement of the thyroid.

In both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, there may be swelling of a part of the neck, which is also known as goiter.

How to treat Thyroid.

Common treatment for Thyroid is medication prescribed by Doctors. Mostly you are asked to take Thyronorm tablets. This prescription is lifelong & supposed to be taken empty stomach every day before breakfast. Along with this, you are supposed to go for Blood Checkups every 3 months. This is done to check your T3, T4 and TSH levels.

However, there are ways to control your Thyroid naturally. I am going to share some of my personal experiences with you. 

1. YOGA – Yoga is an ancient exercise passed on to us through generations. It has amazing healing powers which helps us boost body metabolism and control various bodily functions. Yoga asanas like Ujjayi Pranayam, Kapalbhati Pranayam & Anulom-Vilom Pranayam are very effective in keeping our mind and body stress-free and help you control Thyroid disorders.

2. WALKING – Early morning walks are good for health. We know that. But it’s also good when it comes to controlling your Thyroid!.. Get up and start walking for at least 45 minutes daily to keep your Thyroid under control.

3. CORIANDER (DHANIYA) WATER – Yes, you heard it right!.. Coriander seeds are very useful and effective and help control Thyroid disorders. Coriander is a wonderful source of dietary Fiber, Manganese, Iron & Magnesium. Plus they are also rich in Vitamin ‘C’, Vitamin ‘K’ and Proteins. They also contain beta-carotene and Folic acid.

Soak Coriander in water overnight. Boil it for 15 minutes and drink it every morning. This will help in controlling Blood Glucose level and Thyroid disorders.

What to eat – Green Leafy Vegetables, Almonds, Beans, Eggs, Meat & Fish.

What not to eat – Processed foods, Fast foods, Foods containing Gluten & High sugar.

Thyroid can be controlled by following above steps & changing our lifestyle. You don’t always have to rely on Medicine. Exercise, practice Yoga and eat well to stay fit and Thyroid free!
